Is Online Learning as Good as Face-to-Face Learning?

In my opinion, online learning has much more restrictions of learning compared to face-to-face learning. As technology develops, many people these days have become to access the Internet very easily, and the Internet has become significant part of our lives. Thanks to the growth of the Internet, a new learning medium which is online learning came out. Although online learning is one of the innovative learning ways, I believe face-to-face learning is much better than online learning for several reasons.

First of all, when you study on online by yourself, there must be something you could not understand and must be some problems you could not solve yourself. However, for example, when I wonder something and want to know why it comes like that, I cannot ask a professor or friends and get the answer immediately. It is the biggest shortcoming of online learning that I think.

Secondly, since there are many other elements and environment that can tempt not to study, it may lower one's concentration. As you know, online learning is a method of learning used by computer. Therefore, you should look at the monitor screen for long time to listen to the online lecture. I believe that there may be some people who like to study through online learning and concentrate well, but it is quite a hard work for most of the people sitting and looking at their monitors for a long time because it makes their eyes get tired soon. Furthermore, as people usually listen to the online lectures by themselves at home, it is easy to be disrupted by surrounding environments such as TV, smart phone, their siblings, and so on. These kinds of distractions make people’s work retardative and not efficient.

Finally, face-to-face learning is good because you can take the class enthusiastically compared to doing by yourself through online learning. As you take a face-to-face class, you would be able to listen to the lecture more carefully and concentrate well by communicating with a professor and other students in the class. Moreover, during the lecture, if you have some questions, you can ask the professor on the spot and can get the answer instantly. In other words, in face-to-face classes, students have their classmates and professors who can always support and help them with the various learning needs. I think this allows them to succeed in their education.

Conclusively, all of the reasons above demonstrate that face-to-face learning is better than online learning.

Production and Ownership of Knowledge

In this semester, I have learned how to write a space-order paragraph using lots of descriptive details, a listing-order paragraph using reasons and examples to prove my point, and an opinion paragraph. Through writing various kinds of paragraphs, I have acquired understanding of knowledge production and knowledge ownership. To be specific, I have got to know how to write a paragraph more informatively and interestingly to convey my opinion and feelings to others. Professor Gary, who has been an English Writing Professor for about 9 years in Sejong University, always told us, "Paragraph should be clear, specific, detailed, and concise." To write clearly, I did not make grammatical errors as possible. To write specifically, I wrote on the basis of my own experience. To write detailedly, I used many descriptive words, and I put some related images of the topic because readers may have no knowledge about my topic. To write a perfect writing, I always tried to fulfill those four requirements: clear, specific, detailed, and concise. Finally, ownership of knowledge is one of the important elements in writing. There are innumerable information in the Internet, and we can get those information with comparative ease. I realized that it makes more reliable when I use citations of famous researchers or celebrities because readers know who they are. Consequently, I believe showing knowledge ownership is very significant to give readers credibility. 

About comments

1) What has the comments others have posted on my blog taught me about my own writing?

The comments others have posted on my blog taught me how to write better. To be specific,

since other students posted comments about their thoughts on my writing, I could share

some ideas about my topic with them and it became a good opportunity to consider about it

more. Moreover, when I wrote about "Importance Of Attending University" for reasons and

example paragraph, Jung Sub and Sang Won gave me some advices. Jung Sub told me to

add visual elements to help readers to understand my opinion better, and Sang Won told

me it would be better if I add reference of expert opinion in my writing because it makes

my claim more credible.

All the comments I have received became lots of help when I wrote my final draft. Thank

you Jihye, Ho Chul, Ju Eun, Sang Won, and Jung Sub! :)

2) What have the comments I have posted on other blogs taught me about writing?

I have learned a lot of things through reading many other students' writings, and giving

them comments. Through posting comments on others' writings, I was able to acquire an

ability to find out grammatical mistakes in writings, and therefore I kept it in mind and tried

to not make such mistakes.

Importance Of Attending University

                       

Attending university helps people to have more guaranteed and successful lives. It is possible to say that going to university is a preparation stage for one's future life in society. There are two reasons that can prove these statements.

First of all, in universities, people are able to acquire specialized knowledge that is essential to them. As you know, there are many people who would like to get high-paying and stable jobs. These days, to get good jobs, people study hard to get university degrees even after having high school education. This means it has become many companies with high salaries require university degrees, and it is hard to get a job without the degrees. It is especially more important to take a good university degree in Korea because many employers in Korea tend to judge individual's ability by a university one has graduated, and they hire people who are with good university degrees. Therefore, most of the Korean people go to universities to gain high education and specialized knowledge. Moreover, according to OECD(Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development)'s index of education, it says that Korea held the first rank among OECD countries for a high rate of college graduates and ranked second for having a huge wage gap between a person with a high school diploma and a college graduate. This proves that many people in Korea go to universities.

Secondly, people can experience social life in advance through meeting a variety of people in universities. For instance, unlike high school, there are no divided classes in universities. Thanks to this system, people could easily get-acquainted with lots of various people by taking courses they would like to and make more personal connections. Meeting many kinds of people, they would get to learn how to socialize and cooperate with others.

 

To conclude, we can live without attending university, but if we go to universities and acquire university degrees, it will lead us to a better life by getting a higher status and greater wealth.

My Ideal Study Place

 My ideal place that I can mentally focus is a study room which is located directly below my apartment. There are three reasons that I think it is a best place to concentrate on my work. First of all, there are various people who are studying, reading books, or doing their own works. During the exam period, I go there everyday to study for my exams. Since I'm easily influenced by my surrounding environment, I can concentrate well in the study room seeing people studying hard, and accomplish my work better. In addition, the room is always clean and pleasant. When I enter the room, it is separated into two areas, women's and men's. There are about 40 well-organized seats in the room. Every tidy seats make greater atmosphere to study. Moreover, thanks to the air conditioner, I'm able to study in a cool and pleasant condition without stress. Finally, I can go out for a short time when I want to rest. Sometimes I feel very tired of doing lots of studying. When I feel like escaping from studying, I have a rest at the terrace outside of the study room. Resting in a fresh air improves my memorization ability, and helps me to stay awake. In conclusion, a study room below my apartment is the best place for me to study intensively because of many people who are studying, clean and well-organized space, and a comfortable terrace.

How does where I live (have lived) influence how I live?

 When I was ten years old, my father was sent as a resident worker of Tokyo, and then I went to Tokyo with my family. At that time, I didn't know anything about Japan, and had no interest in Japan. At first, I went to Korean school in Tokyo because my parents and I thought we would go back to Korea in a short time. However, we became to stay longer than that we thought, and I decided to go to Japanese high school to learn Japanese. When I entered the Japanese high school, I had much difficulties in communicating because I couldn't speak Japanese well. Nevertheless, I think living in Tokyo influenced my life positively for two main reasons. First of all, I have Japanese friends who I can keep in touch with whenever I want to. I think I'm lucky to have such friends in my life. Also, experiencing the Japanese local culture not only helped me to understand their culture more easily, but also made me to have interests in other foreign cultures. Second, I've got Japanese language skill. As you know, it has become very important to learn foreign languages in this global era. Therefore, considering my major is Hotel Management, I believe a fluent Japanese skill would be a great help someday. To conclude, Tokyo, the city where I've lived influenced my life so much, and I'm greatly satisfied with my current life.
